Craven & Stoutzker - Strategic, practical and sustainable fundraising
Andrew Craven & Melanie Stoutzker

Andrew guided us through the initial and difficult stages of our capital campaign and worked closely with myself in recruiting and mentoring a new Development team.  I valued the advice that was given and which contributed significantly to the overall success of our campaign.

Fundraising Career: Key Positions

Fundraising Consultant 2000 – Present. Upon leaving The Natural History Museum, Andrew established his own fundraising consultancy working with a range of high calibre clients. Primary focus has been to undertake fundraising audits, prepare fundraising strategies for major gift programmes and guide organisations as they embark upon capital appeals in addition to the recruitment and mentoring of fundraising teams.

Oxford Philanthropic (p/t) 2001-2002, Senior Consultant. Oxford Philanthropic was a leading management consultancy for the not for profit sector.  As a senior consultant Andrew held responsibility for managing some of the consultancy’s largest clients. This was a part-time post that allowed Andrew to maintain his list of private clients.  Due to the death of its founder, the company ceased trading in 2002.  Consequently the majority of Andrew’s clients chose to work with him privately.

The Natural History Museum (1995-2000) - Development Director. Responsibility for increasing income from all fundraising sources including companies, grant giving trusts, legacies with a particular emphasis on establishing a major gifts programme.  Key ad hoc successes included securing three gifts of £1 million for various capital appeals including the restoration of Charles Darwin’s home Downe House, and securing a single lead gift of £10 million for the Museum’s capital appeal, The Darwin Centre, for which he prepared the initial fundraising strategy and managed its initial implementation.

The British Red Cross Society (1990-1995) - Head of Corporate Fundraising A new post created to maximize income from corporate sources and from grant giving trusts.  Income increased ten-fold within five years and incorporated the Society’s first ever global corporate sponsorship deal.
